This intermediate workshop will combine the two arts of encaustic painting and silkscreen printmaking. Suitable for those with some experience with encaustic, but not necessarily printmaking, this one day workshop will help you add something special to your encaustic paintints. Experienced artist and educator Dana Harris Seeger will guide you through her process of creating a silkscreen, and then printing on paper and fabric to incorporate into the encaustic, as well as printing directly on the encaustic itself!
In an intimate setting, you will expand your encaustic skills by combining more structural imagery with the beautiful flowing nature of encaustic painting. If you like collage, photography and want to find new and exciting ways to build your encaustic painting vocabulary then this workshop is for you!
All materials are covered in the class fee, including the painting substrate, medium, pigments used, brushes, primer and other related materials. If you have a silkscreen, you may bring it with you as well as any pre-printed papers which we will embed in the encaustic. If not, no worries! Just bring some ideas for images that can be either simple designs or black and white photography. Each student will go home with an 11x14" encaustic painting.
Students are not required to have any printmaking experience, but I will assume you already know something about encaustic painting. Check out the video below to watch me combine the two mediums in my artwork!
