Enabling Next-Generation Finance with Blockchain:

A primer on open finance applications for real-world usage

Today, open finance promises an ecosystem of digital assets, blockchains, and open protocols, ingratiating themselves with conventional financial structures. However, the real advantages of blockchain technology and its revolutionary potential lie within the dream of contributing to a better and fairer future.

This week, many thought-leaders, projects, and startups will be discussing and showcasing the industry’s latest developments during the Berlin Blockchain Week 2019. We aim to give you a primer on open finance, and discuss some of the financial applications that are live today and gaining traction in fast-moving industry.

Join us for a lively evening, together with speakers from MakerDAO, Bitwala, Aave and panel moderator from Cambrial Capital.

Meet the organisers:

Bitwala will be outlining its role as the bridge from traditional to blockchain finance and share the story that lead to the unique, crypto-friendly bank account. Ben will discuss major hurdles the team experienced and how Bitwala enables its customers to further benefit from open finance applications in the future.

Maker will share their story of bringing the first decentralized stablecoin on the Ethereum blockchain, Dai, to the world - how Dai became the default currency in the blockchain space, as well as how CDPs, the set of smart contracts it builds on, formed the bedrock for the decentralized finance (DeFi) movement. Learn from Gustav Arentoft about the importance of building a strong ecosystem via grassroots movements, ecosystem cross-collaboration, and partnerships with traditional businesses. Real-life applications of Dai and Maker protocol will be presented along.

Aave introduces Decentralized Lending Pools (DLPs), which allows depositors to earn passive income by lending out stablecoins with slick user experience. DLPs allow borrowers to control and plan their finances by swapping between variable and fixed interest rates based on their desire. Stani is the founder of the company and the first decentralized P2P lending platform ETHLend: with his experience as DeFi pioneer, he will explain how the landscape is growing and changing fast.
