How do we uncover/discover the stories of those we no longer have access to?
Solo Exhibition by interdisciplinary visual and social practice artist A.Martinez, En la casa de Mamá, considers this question in an evolving body of visual art, installation, and social practice work based on the artist’s late grandmother Mamá, her late father, and their family’s homes in Santo Domingo, Brooklyn, and Cleveland. The work is rooted in family interviews and photo archives, visitation of family sites, and historical research, but it is also a reimagining of their stories lost through death, distance, immigration, and assimilation.
