Empowered Parenting: Connected Beginnings; Building Co-Regulation
By Children's Institute Inc
Overview
Join us to gain an understanding of the importance of co-regulation in early childhood for building a strong parent/child relationship.
Co-regulation is vital in early childhood development and is necessary for a strong and healthy parent/child bond. It helps children develop self-regulation by providing a safe, supportive base to learn emotional management. It builds emotional competence, resilience, and the skills to handle stress, leading to better mental health, social skills, and academic performance throughout life.
- Teaches emotional skills: Co-regulation guides children to understand and manage their emotions, making them feel safe and supported in the process.
- Builds a foundation for self-regulation: By "sharing calm" with a caregiver, a child internalizes these skills, which eventually allows them to self-soothe and regulate independently.
- Develops lifelong abilities: This foundational process is crucial for emotional intelligence, social learning, resilience, and navigating future challenges in life.
- Strengthens the parent-child bond: The process of co-regulation fosters a strong and secure attachment between the caregiver and child.
