Training Description
This presentation will walk you through the process to support individuals with autism during the journey from high school to adulthood by fostering self-determination, self-advocacy, and independence. Participants will learn the areas essential to adulthood, including skills for independent living, community safety, post-secondary education, and employment, as well as access resources and support for students with autism during the school years and prepare students for life after high school.
Training Objectives
1) Explain the core skills of transition for individuals with disabilities and their families.
2) Describe strategies to support students in identifying their areas of need in the transition to adulthood.
3) Apply concepts from the BRIDGE Toolkit to empower students of transition-age.
About the Presenter
Lauren Veit holds a Master of Education in dual areas of Rehabilitation Counseling and Mental Health from Hofstra University. She is a nationally certified Rehabilitation Counselor. She graduated from SUNY at Old Westbury with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
