Records Management programs do a great job on retention—most organizations keep everything forever. But when it comes to disposal, very few organizations have successfully implemented a consistent, systematic capability to dispose of information after it’s past its legal and operational life. Yet a range of laws, regulations, and industry standards, such as California’s CPRA, NYDFS 23 NYCRR Part 500, and ISO 27001:2022, require organizations to conduct ongoing disposal of corporate information as part of business as usual. In this session, you’ll get an in-depth look at how you take your RIM program from chronic over-retention to the ability to begin disposing of outdated information in eight weeks, including how to:

· Map your current retention schedule to an implementable file plan for ingestion into and execution by RIM software

· Evolve your RIM policy to cover all information by moving beyond the categories of records and non-records to all information

· Identify low-hanging fruit disposal opportunities in your unstructured repositories using file system metadata

· Gain stakeholder alignment to support effective, risk-based decisions about disposal
