Event description

Brought to you by Building on the Best in partnership with the Bay Area Coaching Network, this is a three-part series on Friday mornings, 9am to 12pm, breakfast included:

September 23, 2016

October 21, 2016

November 4, 2016

If you are a busy administrator responsible for regular staff meetings, a coach or professor who delivers professional development, or a lead teacher who facilitates professional learning communities (PLCs), this series is for you.

Prevent meetings from being swallowed up by logistical announcements, complaints without solutions, and other distractions. Instead, make the most of the limited time you have, whether you are offering professional development to graduate students, gathering input for faculty decision making or communicating staff “nuts & bolts.”

Plan. Facilitate. Evaluate.

Dr. Filippini will demonstrate and unpack strategies to make meetings more effective, more efficient, and even more energizing, based on research from education and business sectors. Each day includes guided work time to design your own meetings, so bring your notes and “to-do”s for upcoming meetings or trainings. Days II and III will include a debrief of your meetings, and will also explore how to plan an arc of in-house professional development across the span of the school year.

Strategies to Energize Your Meetings:

  • Using interactive structures to increase engagement and learning

  • Gathering faculty input and turning it into action steps

  • Embedding community building into your content

  • Modeling best practices for teaching

  • Communicating important (but sometimes boring) information

  • Managing meeting/training time efficiently

What is Building on the Best?

Based on the understanding that difference is not a deficit, we help schools, parents, and children build on the strengths of all learners through literacy programs, inclusion and universal design for learning (UDL) training, family education and more. With all this experience faciiltating meetings and trainings, we thought we should share it with others who do this kind of work. Visit www.buildingonthebest.com for more.

What is the refund policy?

Refunds will be given until 1 week prior to the first meeting (September 16, 2016). Registrations are transferrable, so send another colleague in your place if your plans change unavoidably.

I know I cannot attend all three days. Can I register for just one or two?

The workshop series will be more meaningful when taken as a series. However, if you have a conflict for one day but would like to attend the other two days, please contact Dr. Filippini to check on available space.

Are there discounts or scholarships?

An earlybird discount is offered right on the registration page.

Discounts are also available for members of the Bay Area Coaches Network and Parents Education Network.
