What is a Magic: The Gathering Draft?
A draft is one of the most exciting and skill-testing ways to play Magic: The Gathering. Instead of bringing a pre-built deck, players create their decks on the spot by drafting cards from booster packs.
Here’s how it works:
- Open Booster Packs – Each player opens a booster pack, selects one card, and then passes the rest to the next player, then repeats the process for a total number of 3 packs being opened per player.
- Build a Deck – After picking cards from multiple packs, players construct a minimum 40-card deck using their drafted pool and basic lands.
- Compete & Adapt – Players battle it out in a Swiss-style tournament or another structured format. Since no two drafts are the same, adaptability and strategic thinking are key!
- Drafting is perfect for both new and experienced players. It encourages creativity, sharpens deck-building skills, and ensures a level playing field where everyone starts from the same position.
