“Wouldn’t You Like To Get Off The Earth Today?”

EXP TV and 7th House welcome two hip hop heroes to The Philosophical Research Society for a mindblowing, intergalactic audio-visual odyssey: SONGS YOU CAN SEE – SPACEDUST, with live sets by EDAN and CUT CHEMIST!

A critically acclaimed DJ, MC, producer and songwriter with a global following, EDAN (aka The Humble Magnificent) is renowned for his unlikely take on hip-hop culture. Meshing a totally unique and hyper-literate emcee prowess with delicious deep-dive samples, he weaves complex tapestries of beats and rhymes with snippets of sweet soul, 60s psych-pop, Beatles-esque tape effects, prog rock loops, and beyond.

A founding member of underground hip hop titans Jurassic 5 and Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit Ozomatli, and a collaborator with DJ Shadow, experimental DJ and music archivist CUT CHEMIST is one of the world’s most celebrated DJs and producers — renowned for pushing the sonic boundaries of the medium and introducing listeners to his obscure musical discoveries.

For one night only, these two titans of boundary-breaking beats and sonically esoteric exploration unite on the PRS stage to present a rare screening of an entry from Edan and EXP TV's Tom Fitzgerald's intricate audio-visual video mixtape series SONGS YOU CAN SEE, accompanied by live DJ sets by both Edan and Cut Chemist!

SONGS YOU CAN SEE is a series of hour-long sight and sound collages that aim to stimulate/educate. Artist/disk jokk Edan plays the records. EXP TV’s Tom Fitzgerald lays the footage on top. Screening tonight: “SPACE DUST”, the emphasis is all things inner and outer space. Dig it, brothers and sisters...

DON'T SLEEP! THIS WILL BE A KILLER COSMIC NIGHT TO REMEMBER!

ABOUT CUT CHEMIST

Cut Chemist has been recording and performing for nearly 30 years. Known as a turntablist, he started his journey into djing at age 11. By the time he was 14 year old, Cut started recording with his friends (including Chali 2na of Jurassic 5) in an inclosed sun patio that his dad converted into a small make-shift recording studio. By age 21, Cut was a founding member of both the rap group Jurassic 5 and the Grammy award winning Latin funk outfit, Ozomatli. His involvement with both groups helped develop a taste for music and rhythms from around the world while keeping his passion for the hip hop tradition. His mix-tapes and remixes became critically acclaimed. His ‘Chemist’ moniker was fully realized with his instrumental, Lesson 6: The Lecture. In the years following, Cut started a series of mix cds with DJ Shadow using all 45s. Brainfreeze, Product Placement and The Hard Sell, the last of which debuted and headlined at the world famous Hollywood Bowl.

Cut’s solo album journey would begin with The Audience is Listening which was released on Warner Bros in 2006. Following his major label stint, he decided to create his own boutique label that would allow him more freedom. Sound Of The Police, Funk Off Mega Mix & his sophomore solo album, Die Cut were his most notable releases. Although these albums may sound very different from one another, they all have a single thing that ties them together - Cut Chemist pushes boundaries on all of them, testing our musical palates while introducing us to obscure musical finds.
