About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

EcoAction Lab invites Girl Scouts to step into the role of environmental changemakers through a day of interactive, hands-on learning. This engaging workshop supports youth in developing conservation skills and empowers them to take real action for the planet—all while exploring how to participate in the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge.

Workshop Activities Include:

Trash or Treasure: Sort through mock waste to better understand recycling, composting, and waste diversion strategies with the Department of Denver Transportation and Infrastructure.

Water Warriors: Complete a hands-on water activity with Metro Water Recovery while learning about clean water access and conservation.

Make Your Own Reusable Bag & Seed Bombs: Get hands-on with DIY projects that make a positive impact—reduce waste, support pollinators, and keep your neighborhood green.

Take Action: Community Conservation Challenge – Apply your knowledge in a hands-on community clean-up at a nearby park, demonstrating your commitment to real-world environmental change.

NEW ADDITION: Try new things, and get an early taste of the new Girl Scout Cookie, Exploremores! Inspired by rocky road ice cream, this sandwich cookie has flavors of chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almond crème. Samples are available while supplies last, so show up early to get yours!

Event Highlights:

Onsite Slingshot Challenge Support: Participants ages 13–18 will have the opportunity to create and submit a one-minute (or less) video idea for the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge. Girl Scouts of Colorado staff will be available onsite to help with filming and setting up submission accounts. Youth who submit a video could win up to $10,000 in scholarship funding and have their conservation ideas spotlighted on a national stage. Learn more on the GSCO blog (National Geographic Slingshot Challenge)or on the Slingshot Challenge website (Slingshot Challenge - National Geographic Society).

The first 10 participants who film and submit a video onsite will earn a $25 gift card of their choice!

All participants will earn the National Geographic Slingshot Challenge patch to wear with pride on their vest or sash.

Meet with Metro Water Recovery! Metro Water Recovery was formed under Colorado law in 1961. Metro is the largest water and resource recovery agency in the Rocky Mountain West, serving approximately 2.2 million people in an 817-square mile area. In partnership with 65 local governments, comprised of municipalities and special districts, we clean millions of gallons of water every day to be suitable for agriculture, aquatic life, recreation, and water supply.

This event is recommended for youth ages 10 and up. Caregivers may use their discretion when registering younger participants.

This event is open-house-style running from 1 - 4 p.m. and activities taking attendees approximately one hour to complete. Time slots are provided to help us anticipate arrival times and ensure a smooth, comfortable experience for all participants.
