How can a single photograph change everything?

When an image discovered at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum revealed an unexpected personal connection, Portlander Ed Schultz and his sister found themselves drawn into a remarkable journey. Soon, they were invited to join a PBS film crew traveling through Lithuania and Belarus, documenting Holocaust survivors and descendants as they revisited long-vanished shtetls.

Join Ed for a screening of the PBS documentary produced by the crew, during which he’ll share how one archival discovery opened doors to both history and memory — uncovering stories of loss, resilience, and surprising ties that continue to echo through generations.

Part mystery, part history, and wholly unforgettable, this presentation reminds us how the past can reach across time to reshape the present.

Refreshments will be served.
