ECHO Chamber Orchestra imbues the European tradition of a fine orchestra in every town with the Bay Area spirit of innovation, self-determination and enthusiasm, offering a growing body of listeners concerts that are warm, local and out of the orchestral box.

SAN ANSELMO, CA — Join Echo Chamber Orchestra in a celebration of all living things when they present their winter concert, The Creation Of The World, on February 4 at 7 p.m. in San Anselmo’s First Presbyterian Church.

Highlighting the evening is a rare live performance of Darius Milhaud’s ballet music, La Création du monde. Composed in 1923, La Creation elaborates an African creation myth in a musical language inspired by the French composer’s time in Harlem and the unique dance bands he heard there.

Echo continues its collaborative tradition with the premiere of “Echos” by Texas-born Belinda Reynolds, a Covid-era work that “echoes” the feedback that Reynolds received from orchestra musicians via Zoom conversations.

Orchestra member Matt Rupert, a clarinetist, pianist and composer, will work with members of the percussion section for the debut performance of “Cicadas” for Marimba, Piano and Audio Recording. Using sound bites recorded in Japan, “Cicadas” explores rhythms found in nature.

Closing the performance will be Mendelssohn’s First Symphony, a Mozartian-styled work influenced by the young composer’s intense study of J.S. Bach. Music Director Daniel Canosa conducts.
