About this event

Join us on Saturday May 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM for a fun and interactive sourdough baking workshop. Learn how to make delicious sourdough bread from scratch in just one day! The event will be held at 1233 Golf Course Rd.

Do you want to make sourdough but have failed or are too intimidated by the process to start? I have developed a same day method that will have you baking in no time. I am a busy mom and just don't have the time to spend 24+ hours on a loaf of bread, and most people feel the same way. I wanted the reward fast, and I want to share it with you.

Class will be about 2 hours and you will bake at home a few hours later.

You will take home a recipe and tip sheet and an active starter of your own. I teach hands on techniques for stretching, shaping, adding inclusions, scoring (I include the braid technique), baking, and feeding and maintaining a starter. This workshop is held in my home, you may enjoy the sounds of roosters crowing during class :) When you leave you will have the confidence and skills you need to be successful at sourdough without the confusing rules and processes.

Please bring a clear 2 to 3 L glass bowl with a lid and a small glass container to class.

At home you will need a Dutch oven with a lid, parchment paper, and a scoring tool (a new/clean utility knife will work fine), and baking sheet or trivet.

I offer a complimentary glass of wine if you like, I will also have fresh coffee and ice water available.

If you would like a sourdough baking supply kit to take home please Venmo @mccordhe or PayPal heathermccord@yahoo.com 45.00 at time of booking. Please include your name and booking date, and note that I cannot take orders for kits later than WEDNESDAY MAY 22nd.

If you would like advice on other baking equipment like dutch oven, bowl, etc please email me.

You can see many examples of my bread on my Facebook page; All Good Things. The profile photo is a grey rooster.

Kit includes;

2 Rattan Banneton Baskets & Linen Liners, Metal Scraper, Plastic Scraper, Scoring Lame, Dough Whisk, 5 Blades with Case, 40 Oz Large Capacity DIY Glass Sourdough Starter Jar With Lid, Thermometer, Date Marked Feeding Band, Cloth Cover, Spatula and Cutter.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to bring?

a large glass bowl (3-4 L) and a glass jar with a lid to take your starter home in.

What do I need at home to bake my bread?

flour for your work surface, parchment paper, a dutch oven with a lid, a scoring tool (I use a clean utility knife), and a baking sheet.

Can I bake my loaf the next day?

This is possible, but for the best outcome and to stay true to the same day recipe; you should plan to put your bread in the oven between 2:30 and 3pm that day. You will have 3 hours of hands off time between 1130 ish until then to run errands or have lunch.

Will I bake my bread at home?

Yes. I will bake an example loaf with you in class that I have prepared and proofed early that morning, but you will be taking dough home to bake on your own.

Will I get messy?

Your hands will be getting messy. I provide wipes, paper towels, nail brush, and handwashing. Sourdough will get under your nails and on/in rings, you can bring gloves if you like.

What is the setting?

My kitchen table. This is a "homestead" experience, no fancy appliances or custom cabinets here. This is designed to be realistic and get you practical advice so you can make bread with confidence and take the complications out of it. My method works and my previous students have been pleased!

Why is it 50.00?

I spend a lot of time prepping for the course through the week. I am also up at 5 am on the day of the course preparing fresh dough to give you the hands on experience, and there are supply and ingredient costs to give you the best experience and chance at success.
