Early Literacy: Building Comprehension Foundations
Overview
Early Literacy: Building Comprehension Foundations
Presented by Lakeshore
Join us online for a fun and interactive session all about early literacy!
Developing strong comprehension skills in the early years sets the stage for lifelong learning and reading success. In this session, we will explore why comprehension matters even before children can read independently, how understanding develops from birt through age five, and practical strategies educators can use to nurture these skills. We will examine the role of oral language, vocabulary, and interactive read-alouds, and share engaging activities that promote listening and thinking skills in young learners.
Outcomes: As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• explain the connection between oral language and comprehension.
• implement strategies that build comprehension during read-alouds and conversations.
• design activities that encourage prediction, retelling, and making connections.
Participants who complete this session will receive a certificate for 2 hours of professional development.
