'Boba' the Dwarf Umbrella Tree, Schefflera arboricola 'variegata'

Native to Southeast Asia, my leaves are a glossy green and fan out like tiny umbrellas. In Feng Shui, I am used to capture positive energy and protect the home. I make a great apartment friend because I'm tolerant of many conditions, including some shady north facing windows and corners. Note: I'm am not a pet friendly plant.

Care: Water every 10-14 days, keep in low light to indirect light.

Symbolism: protection, ability to thrive even in the shadows

Materials Provided: One handmade small bonsai planter in small white, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.

About the instructor/s:

Matthew Puntigam lived and worked in Tokyo for 7 years learning bonsai techniques and garden skills while apprenticing at a garden design and bonsai shop. He opened Dandy Farmer in 2016 to bring the art of bonsai to the NYC community.

All bonsai making materials will be provided. Keep in mind there will be soil and water, possibly flying through the air. You may want to bring an apron if you are a messy planter and want to keep dirt off your lap. We provide gloves if you'd like to use them and we have a sink nearby.

Can I bring my bonsai home with me?

Absolutely! We'll package your new plant well enough to safely make the journey to its new home, and include care instructions and a name card.

What's the refund policy?

Sorry, but there are no refunds within 7 days of the event, due to a limited number of spots in the workshop and the preparation involved in making it happen.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Send an email to: hello@dandyfarmer.com

What's accessibility like?

There are several stairs leading up to the shop, but we can assist anyone if necessary.

Best way to get there? Is there parking?

The closest train lines are the F train at York St station, B,Q,R trains at Dekalb Ave station, and G train at Clinton-Washington Ave station. They are all about a 20 min. walk. If driving, there is usually parking a block away along Park Ave. under the BQE overpass. Parking is free.
