Duke Elington's NUTCRACKER SUITE Performed Live @ JRAC
Overview
The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA.
"In 1960, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn decided to take on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite, released on Columbia records. Although there were risks of transforming the works of one the most prolific composers into a jazz setting, Duke and Billy attacked the Russian Composer's music and treated it as if it were their own. In order to truly fit the change of the music, Duke and Billy decided to retitle the songs. This record serves as a tribute to the Russian composer Tchaikovsky, as well as the artistry of both Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn."
