Join us for a very special edition of this month’s Drum Circle! Victoria will be leading her signature West African drumming class, and for the first time, participants will get the exciting opportunity to showcase their rhythm, energy, and love for the music and culture in a live performance!
Bring your friends and family to watch the music come to life—the second half of the event will be open to the public + guests.
Schedule:
- 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM: Drum Class with Victoria
Participants will warm up, learn new rhythms, and prepare for the showcase.
- 6:45 PM – 7:00 PM: Break + Guest Seating
Time for a quick rest while the space is set for the audience. Doors open to the public.
- 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Live Drum Showcase
Victoria and the participating drummers will take the stage to perform together and share the joy of drumming!

A drum circle is a communal gathering where group participation and connection through the beat is emphasized and explored. There are several benefits to attending a drum circle, including stress relief, community building, boosted creativity, and improved rhythm! A drum will be provided.
Victoria Boateng is an autism advocate. Victoria was diagnosed with autism when she was three years old and couldn't speak until she was 7 years old. Victoria uses her gift of djembe to inspire the autism community and women of all races, genders, and creeds. Victoria graduated from Western Illinois University in December 2012 with a bachelor's degree in communication and minor in theater. After graduation, Victoria Boateng studied West African drumming with master drummers Bolokoda Conde and Michael Taylor. Victoria is now a substitute teacher at Old Town School Of Folk Music and a drum teacher at Ruth Page Center for the Arts. She is also an apprentice performer/drummer in an all-female drum and dance company Ayodele Drum and Dance and She Wolf Sacred Movement. She is the principal performer at Ayodele Drum and Dance.
Victoria is currently teachingmonthly drum classes for people with disabilities at Divine Purpose Fine Arts Center and monthly drum classes at The Empty Corner.
