Event description
This seminar will cover the key evaluation principles found in the NHTSA Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP-DRE)

About this Event

The Michigan Association of OWI Attorneys and the State Bar of Michigan Marijuana Law Section have joined hands to present a Drug Evaluation and Classification Course. This training seminar is an overview of the key evaluation principles found in the NHTSA Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP-DRE) led by Lance Platt and team-taught with Fran Gengo, PHARM.D. The course will provide a look at pharmacology from the law enforcement and pharmacologist points of view.

This unique training course will inform the attendee in the most current NHTSA/IACP approved DRE procedures and training curriculum/protocols as well as case planning techniques from a medical and scientific point of view. This training seminar will train the legal professional in:Development and effectiveness of the drug recognition process; Overview of physiology of drugs; The drug evaluation and classification procedures (12 step process); Drug evaluation eye examinations (HGN, VGN, lack of convergence, estimation of pupil size, pupil reaction to light); Vital sign examinations (pulse rates, blood pressure, and body temperature); Seven drug categories; Drug combinations; Analysis of the drug evaluation narrative report and the drug influence evaluation face sheet; and proper use of the drug evaluation matrix to form drug category classification. Attendees will receive a jump drive of the most recent NHTSA DECP course pre-school and long course manuals along with DECP studies and case law as well as ARIDE manuals. Participants will receive a Certification of their mastery of “An Overview of the NHTSA Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DRE) 2018 Curriculum.” This is a much broader Certification than law enforcement receives when it takes the DRE introductory weekend.

Included with your ticket are the following: lunch on site both days; ongoing snack and beverages; discounted hotel rate. This seminar also qualifies you for 12 CLE credits if you attend both full days.

This seminar is held at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development on the campus of Michigan State University. It is connected to, and shares a parking lot with the Candlewood Suites of East Lansing. It is also home of Forest Akers gold club and University Club of MSU.
