Dreamscapes: Live in the Gallery with Joyce Yu & Minchae Kim
Overview
Join us on Saturday, February 28, at 7:00 pm at the Granville Center for the Arts for Dreamscapes: a special performance that invites you into a soundscape shaped by imagination—music that moves the way dreams do, slipping between tenderness, elegance, and sudden sparks of fiery passion. Pianist Joyce Yu and violinist Minchae Kim, both graduates of the Cleveland Institute of Music, bring their shared artistic vision to life, inviting listeners into an unpredictable and intimate musical dream world.
The journey begins with Mozart’s Violin Sonata in E minor, K. 304, written in the wake of his mother’s passing in Paris, which offers a rare glimpse into his inner world: poignant, urgent, and deeply human. Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 30, brings a contrasting brightness, where playful exchanges and lyrical warmth reveal the optimism of his early middle period. Saint-Saëns’s Havanaise closes the program with dazzling virtuosity and sultry colors, transporting the audience into a dream of Havana, where violin and piano dance in irresistible rhythm.
This performance is free and fun for all ages.

Meet the Artists:
Joyce Yu, Piano
Pianist Joyce Yu grew up in a home alive with creativity—her father painting expressive, Pollock-style canvases while music filled the air. That blend of color and sound shaped her imagination and led her to the piano, where she has since built a vibrant international career.
Joyce made her solo debut at fifteen with Orchestra Napolinova in Italy and has gone on to perform at major venues including Shenzhen Concert Hall, the Southampton Cultural Center in the Hamptons, the Ebenezer Theater, and Delbridge Hall in Boston. She has appeared in festivals such as the Gilmore Festival, Pianofest in the Hamptons, Todi International Music Masters, and the Banff Art of Piano.
Her collaborations are wide-ranging, from performing with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra under DanWen Wei to international artistic exchanges, including being selected as the sole pianist for a program at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag in the Netherlands. She was also featured in the documentary The Silk Road, highlighting cultural connections through music.
Minchae Kim, Violin
Born in South Korea, Minchae Kim began playing violin at seven and made her concerto debut at nine with the Jeonju Philharmonic Orchestra. Her early talent led to a debut recital as a Kumho Young Artist and performances with ensembles including the Gloria String Orchestra, Moldova Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Gimpo Philharmonic Orchestra.
A passionate chamber musician, Minchae has toured with the Heifetz Ensemble in Residence, appeared in the Western Reserve Series, and served as guest artist at the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival. She is also a founding member of the award-winning Kyklos Quartet, which earned top prizes at the WDAV and Toledo Glass City Chamber Music Competitions.
Her artistic journey includes residencies and festivals such as Kneisel Hall, IMS Prussia Cove, Music@Menlo, Heifetz Institute, and Creative Dialogue France, where she collaborated with leading artists including Nicholas Kitchen, Yeesun Kim, Philip Setzer, and Wu Han.
