Dreams and Devotion: Schumann's Fantasy and works for cello and piano
Overview
Robert Schumann
Romances, Op. 94
Fantasy, Op. 17
Adagio & Allegro, Op. 70
Hillary Nordwell, Piano
Megan Titensor, Cello
Schumann wrote his Fantasy, Op. 17 during the turbulent time of his engagement to Clara Wieck, whose father (Schumann's piano teacher) forbid them to spend time together. Music was one of the few tools at their disposal to communicate, and the Fantasy contained messages from Schumann meant to be understood by his fiancee. The Romances, Op. 94 and Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70 were written during a relatively stable period of Robert's and Clara's married life. Originally written for oboe and horn with piano, these works have been transcribed for many instruments, including cello.
The evening will include stories and insights into the pieces performed, as well as some Schumann-inspired refreshments.
Street Parking available within walking distance.
This concert takes place in a private residence. It is the very last house on the bluff, just beyond Wing Luke Elementary School, and the driveway begins just before a sharp curve in the road. Please ring the doorbell when you arrive and plan a few extra minutes for parking and finding the venue!
