General Information - Stanford/Langmore FEES Course:

Stanford's Division of Laryngology is thrilled to partner with Langmore FEES, LCC faculty to provide this advanced course on optimizing evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders using endoscopy. Faculty members of Langmore FEES, LLC represent clinicians, teachers, and researchers extensively trained by Dr. Susan Langmore, developer of the FEES procedure. These expert leaders in the field of swallowing evaluation and treatment are joined by providers in Stanford Medical’s Division of Laryngology including 5 fellowship trained laryngologists and 5 voice and swallow specialized SLPs.

This course offers multiple ways of learning with didactic lectures as well as a “hands-on” lab to learn ways of optimizing use of endoscopy for FEES evaluation and treatment of swallow disorders. Participants in the hands-on lab should expect to get several passes signed off by both Stanford laryngologists and SLPs in accordance with CA guidelines. We do NOT guarantee a minimal number of passes. The number of passes can depend on skill, experience, and comfort level. To participate in the hands-on portion, you will be asked to volunteer to be scoped. The lecture portions of the course consist of lectures, digital imaging, discussion and live demonstrations. Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear our impressive faculty.

As a result of this course, the participant will be able to:

1. Describe 2 potential outcomes of using more than recommended amount of Lidocaine (Kearney).

2. Explain why “manual” light setting is important when doing a FEES exam (Kearney, McRay, Cavanagh).

3. Explain the difference between a MBS study and a FEES exam (McRay, Cavanagh).

4. Describe the “laryngeal rim” and its importance for interpretation of the FEES exam (Kearney, Cavanagh).

5. Describe the challenges Pediatric SLPs face with training (Thomas).

This program/course meets the qualifications for ASHA CEUs and continuing professional development credit for speech-language pathologist as required by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board. Stanford’s SLPAB Provider number is PDP-332.

To receive ASHA CEUs, participants will need to complete the following:

1. Course evaluation.

2. Self-assessment of learning

3. Verification of participation.

A LINK WILL BE SENT AFTER THE COURSE AND MUST BE SUBMITTED BY FEBRUARY 9 , 2026
