Dr. Jim and The Jazz Interns
Overview
Jim Young is a practicing ER doctor and singer whose smooth voice has been compared to that of Johnny Mathis. He has been performing in the Toledo area for the past 20 years, but has been a professional musician for more than 50 years. Jim has been collaborating with Scott Lavender for the last 12 years, including the popular Jazz in the Garden at the Toledo Botanical Gardens and a sold out performance at Lucille's Jazz Lounge. The artist loves all genres of music, with a special affinity for smooth jazz. He greatly admires vocalists Johnny Mathis, Michael Buble and Al Jarreau.
Among his long and varied career, Jim also performed as a bassist and back-up singer with pop, funk and R & B groups.
Recently, Jim and the musicians performing here today recorded a song entitled, "Christmas in New York." He also has recorded with Dr. Emmett Miller on "Better and Better," has sung with the New York Voices and performed with the late Claude Black at the former Murphy's Jazz Club.
Toledo's own Jon Hendricks once remarked of Jim, "You have a gift, you should be doing this every day." Jim and the band are pleased to be part of this season's Discovers Music Series.
