Time: 6pm-9pm
Description: Experience the magic of double weave!!! Weave two layers at once! What??? Yes, that's right, weave two layers on the loom, simultaneously!
We will explore how to integrate those two woven layers to create a double-wide folded cloth, a tube, pockets, pictorial imagery, and more! In this class, we will focus on process, emphasizing loom set up and technique to create double weave samplers. Learning double weave will unlock so much potential in your weaving! It is so exciting!!!
This class is great for weavers who have some experience with a 4-harness loom and are looking to take their practice to a new dimension. (Literally...you can create dimensional weaving with double weave!). Prerequisite is "Weaving 1" or equivalent experience. Not to worry: It is still expected that participants will require some assistance in the process of dressing the loom!

About the Artist
Jamie Boyle is an artist and weaving teacher who recently moved back to Pittsburgh after living for more than a decade in a studio apartment in Brooklyn, NY with a partner and two cats. They attended public school from grade school through graduate school. Jamie's first weaving teacher was the artist Ann Hamilton, in whose studio they worked for several years after completing an MFA in sculpture. Subsequently, Owyn Marisol Ruck, Kira Silver, Isa Rodrigues, Kelly Valetta, and Jose Picayo taught Jamie who to use a multi-harness floor loom as a tool for weaving. They have had the great honor of sharing a love of weaving with communities of learners at the Park slope Center for Successful Aging, the National Council of Jewish Women NY Lifetime Learning Center, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the Textile Arts Center, among others. Jamie has participated in artist residencies at the Textile Arts Center (Brooklyn, NY); the Museum of Arts and Design (New York, NY); through the SU-CASA program administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council; and Contemporary Craft (Pittsburgh, PA). Currently, they serve as the Fibers Program Manager at Contemporary Craft.
