ART:DIS (Arts & Disability Singapore) presents a double-bill showcase for two nights, featuring a pan-disability cast in collaboration with industry professionals.
Showcase 1
The Other Side is a dramatised reading exploring themes of dignity, autonomy, and the profound complexity of love when confronted with the decision to let go.
In a near future where assisted suicide has been legalised, Stephanie, a young woman with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, faces the painful choice of continuing a life of diminishing quality or opting for an assisted death. Her older sister, Janice, struggles deeply with the morality of her choice, reflecting on her own beliefs and their shared past. What does it mean to love someone who relies heavily on you? Who has control in a situation where control can’t be found? Who’s right, who’s wrong, does it matter in the end?

Showcase 2
Who Am I? is a multi-disciplinary performance exploring identity and personhood.
Not deaf enough. Not hearing enough. Not dependent enough. Not independent enough. Not enough. Well, after being told that she is this and that and therefore she will never/always be this and that, one woman has had enough of everyone’s expectations and assumptions about her.
Through a tapestry of borrowed texts, original writings, and swordplay, this is the journey a woman takes as she finally confronts her deepest and darkest fears, vanquishes the demons that haunt her, and emerges a stronger warrior at the end.
