DOE Zero Energy ready Home Program and Beyond
This class will go over what goes into a Zero Energy Ready Home and strategies to achieve net-zero energy status in North Carolina. The course will discuss the use of natural gas and batteries, distinctions between off-grid or grid-tied projects, and costs associated with each, plus the impact of the homeowner on the likelihood of achieving actual net-zero energy.
Instructors: Amy Musser & Doug Ager
Amy is co-founder and principal of VandeMusser Design, PLLC, founded in 2002. Amy received her Bachelors and Ph.D. degrees in Architectural Engineering and an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.She is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and has previously held a faculty position in Architectural Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and as a researcher in the Indoor Air Quality group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD.
Doug is the CEO and Co-Founder of Sugar Hollow Solar. He's been a hard worker his whole life - in high school he started a firewood business where he split everything by hand! He grew up at Hickory Nut Gap Farm and graduated from Warren Wilson College and then Western Carolina University with a masters in English Literature. After spending years working with his hands as a farrier and carpenter, he joined his cousin Phelps to kickoff Sugar Hollow Solar. He became interested in business and the idea that it could be a force for good while watching his brother and brother’s wife build Hickory Nut Gap Meats. Nowadays, he still loves doing all the country boy things like fishing, hunting, and gardening, as well as being a Dad to his toddler.
