Do a Thing: Starting and Maintaining Artist Run Spaces

The Apartment Gallery or Artist-Run Space often provides an alternative version to local institutions. These spaces showcase the work of under-recognized artists and challenge the current social and cultural moment in an artist community. While these spaces take a lot of energy, their core facets are easy to grasp.

In this workshop with Informality and Artist INC, you'll pick up the basics and be able to ask questions, form some ideas about starting your own space, and find funding through upcoming local opportunities.

Building a strong network of alternative spaces is going to be incredibly important for Kansas City in 2018. Any artist, visual or otherwise, can apply to be a "cultural partner" as an alternative space for Open Spaces. We will also go over the basics of that application and how it can be a platform for empowering the artist run spaces in our community.
