DIY Paper Making Workshop
Overview
Join us for a FREE, Paper making Workshop at the Pittsburgh Center For Creative Reuse!
Join Guest Teaching Artist, Samey, for a hands-on paper making workshop where you'll learn to transform recycled paper from home into beautiful, eco-friendly creations. Using materials like old newspapers, paper fiber, egg cartons and other scrap material, we’ll explore creative techniques to craft your own unique sheets of paper. They’re great for everything from collages to cards. This is a beginner DIY workshop that requires no experience or materials. *Optional materials to bring include: an apron (this workshop uses a lot of water and mushy pulp), flower pressings/petals or other embellishments to decorate into your paper.
Creative Reuse is a supportive space, open to folks with any level of artistic ability. Our goal is to foster expression and creative community, not perfection. Just bring an open mind– we’ll cover the rest.
This workshop is a part of our Guest Teaching Artist workshop series! On the second sunday of each month we bring in a local artist to host a workshop sharing their specialty. This months' Guest TA is Samey (she/her).
Samey Jay (SJ) is a local creative and Community Organizer in Pittsburgh who has been collaging for over 15 years! Over the past decade she has found paper art to be a necessary tool to fuel her mental health recovery. She is always excited for an opportunity to share her work with others. She believes in art as activism, and is a powerful way to engage in individual AND collective healing. She believes paper art, and collage, are some of the best ways to make crafting and art making accessible to all by using everyday material anyone can find at home!
