Diving into the Dough: NEW Doughnut 3.0 Monitors Troubling Global Trends
Date: Dec. 4, 2025
Time: 4:30-6pm
Location: Mission Fed Credit Union, 10325 Meanley Drive, San Diego, CA 92131
Event Background
Our planet, humanity & all living ecosystems are in peril. Troubling global trends and historic evidence prove we cannot continue on this course if we want a thriving world that sustains human life over the next 100 years. We are expending our natural resources, destroying habitat and poisoning our air, water and food supplies in a race to extinction.
This is unacceptable and we must do better. We know what need to do but just like we know what we should eat to be healthy and we know that driving under the influence is bad and we know that exercise is proven to reduce stress and extend our lives, we often don't do it.
Well, our San Diego County Doughnut Economics Alliance team is hear to help you learn how to save our planet and take action steps to do so instead of just admiring the problem and hoping someone will do something about it.
We've held a few Doughnut Economic education sessions in 2023 and 2024 and are hosting this 2025 event to share about the latest updates in Doughnut Economics as Kate Raworth and her team at the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) analyze trends across 35 social and ecological indicators from 2000-2022 to show us 21st century trends. We will explore and discuss Doughnut 3.0, these new global findings and layer them into what we see for our San Diego region.
We will discuss:
- Fixation on pursuing GDP growth - especially in the richest of countries - is fast driving the world away from a thriving future.
- How to create a more regenerative and distributive economic system without grinding our current economic system to a hault.
- How to place human well-being and plantetary health over rapid economic growth
- How businesses can use the Doughnut to access and change how they are impacting the 35 social and ecological indicators.
- How individaul households can use the Doughnut to access and change thier impact on society and our planet.
- Developing a San Diego Doughnut Portrait in 2026
