Divination 101: Tarot, Tea Leaf Reading, and Palmistry

When we practice divination, we reaffirm the magic and potency of our inner voice — our intuition. During the autumn months, our intuitive senses are at their peak, and as we press towards the heart of the dark season, the veil between realms grows thin, allowing messages from our inner selves, helping spirits, and ancestors to come through with greater clarity.

The season of the witch is the ideal time to cultivate a divinatory practice. In this workshop, led by Jezmina Von Thiele, we'll explore three divinatory methods and tools for building a relationship with your intuitive self: tarot, palmistry, and tasseomancy.

Together, we'll explore:

• 🔮Tarot: how to learn the meanings of the cards, use a tarot spread, work with the symbolism on the cards, and approach your deck with more thoughtful questions
• 🖐️Palmistry: learn the different hand types, major lines, symbols and their meanings, as well as techniques for flexing your intuitive "seeing" abilities
• ☕Tasseomancy: learn how to create a tea leaf reading ritual, different techniques and methods for reading the cup, and how to respectfully engage with this form of divination and its cultural roots

If you're a complete beginner to divination, have no fear, babe! We're starting with the essentials, including an overview of the history and cultural roots of each divinatory practice, and how the persecution of Roma, also known by the racial slur "Gypsies," has shaped the culture's practice of and relationship to fortune telling. You'll walk away from this series with the skills you need to begin cultivating a respectful, embodied practice with each of the divination methods we study, as well as a strengthened intuition and inner voice.

Please bring the following to class:

• A tarot deck
• Loose leaf tea of your choosing & teacup
• Journal and pen for note-taking
• Snacks and drinks for nourishment!
• Anything else you need to feel cozy & present

All tickets are nonrefundable.

If Seagrape Apothecary reschedules a workshop or class and an attendee cannot attend the rescheduled workshop or class, a class credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation.

If Seagrape Apothecary cancels a workshop or class, attendees will get the choice between class credit or a Seagrape Apothecary gift card. If class credit is chosen, a credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation. If the gift card is chosen, a digital gift card worth the ticket value will be shared via email and valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation.

If an attendee is a no-show to a class, no credit will be given.

COVID Exceptions: If an attendee tests positive for COVID and reaches out prior to an in-person class to let us know, a class credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year.

About Your Instructor:

​Jezmina Von Thiele (they/she) is the co-author of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling with Paulina Stevens, and a fortune-teller in their mixed Sinti Romani tradition​, based in Portsmouth, NH as a resident reader at Deadwick's Ethereal Emporium. Jezmina deals ​in tarot, palms, and tea leaves, and teaches workshops on divination, spiritual wellness, and the creative arts​ in-person and online (visit jezminavonthiele.com). ​T​hey often tell fortunes and perform poetry with The Poetry Brothel, Boston’s premiere immersive literary event. Jezmina and Paulina are co-hosts of Romanistan, a podcast celebrating Romani culture​, available on all podcast platforms and romanistanpodcast.com. Roma are an Indian diasporic ethnic group, also known by the slur/ misnomer, Gypsies, and fortune telling is one of the Romani people’s many survival trades.
