As tech companies begin to pay attention to diversity, their framing has shifted from "meritocracy” to “hidden bias.” The appeal of the hidden bias framework in reaching the tech sector is that it is:

  • unifying rather than divisive (all humans have brains that are wired to be biased)
  • research and data driven (advances in neuroscience have given us deeper understanding of brain errors and decision-making)
  • provides actionable results (if we know how biases operate, we can put strategies in place to mitigate them)

But training in hidden bias isn't an end to itself. DISRUPT BIAS will equip you to put research-based strategies into action at your companies in order to better recruit and retain underrepresented talent.

DISRUPT BIAS features six prominent researchers who have focused on mitigating racial and gender bias in employment and educational settings:

DISRUPT BIAS is structured to provide direct access to these researchers in order to consider your research questions and discuss proven strategies. Use the insights of  research to change how your company thinks about talent and hiring, decides about jobs and promotions, and creates a thriving, welcoming workplace culture!

DISRUPT BIAS participants should ideally be responsible for diversity in their respective companies; some will be general People Ops/HR while others will be dedicated diversity officers.  Companies are limited to sending two participants for the day; we suggest executive leadership and diversity team members.
