Explore History and Architecture: St. George Day Tour with ASID

Immerse yourself in the past as you explore the iconic St. George Tabernacle and the newly renovated St. George LDS Temple. Join fellow ASID members for a day of inspiration, culture, and camaraderie.

Tour Itinerary:

• DEPART LAS VEGAS: On your own time, planning for travel time to St. George, UT. (No later than 12 pm Utah time | 11:00am Las Vegas time)*

• 2:00 PM Utah Time (ONE HOUR LATER THAN LAS VEGAS): Commence your journey with a visit to the historic St. George Tabernacle, completed in 1876. Delve into the rich heritage of this architectural gem, where captivating stories from the past come to life.

• 3:00-3:30 PM Utah Time: Take a break to get a bite to eat (see some recommendations below)

• 3:40 PM Utah Time: Please arrive a little early for our group docent led tour of the recently completed renovation of the Historic St. George LDS Temple--The oldest temple in use by the LDS Church was completed in 1877. Gain insights into its captivating architecture, history, and significance. Following the tour (at 6:00pm), enjoy a presentation about the temple's construction in the visitor's center. This is a unique opportunity, as LDS temples are only open for members to visit once they are dedicated. Note: photography is welcome outside of the temple building. Photography is not allowed within the temple, and phones should be silenced and out of sight prior to entering.

• Rest of the Evening: After the temple tour, feel free to explore the city's array of historical sites and indulge in the local cuisine at recommended restaurants.

• Date: Wednesday, September 13th

• Travel Time: Travel time is approximately 2 hours from Las Vegas, taking into account possible road construction delays and the time zone difference (losing an hour due to the time change).

• Meeting Point/Time: St. George Tabernacle, 18 S Main St. St George Utah, 12:45PM Utah Time.

• Time Zone: Note the one-hour time difference (Utah is one hour ahead of Las Vegas)

• Please Note: Meals will not be provided during the tour.

5. Sandstone Quarry Trail is a 0.8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Saint George, Utah that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.

6. Anasazi Petroglyphs Out past Ivins on Old Highway 91 is the Anasazi Valley Trail. The remains of an ancient Native American community lay on top of these hills. Along the trail you’ll see all kinds of incredible petroglyphs and lots of them! These Native American petroglyphs are out in the open and are easy to see. If you’re at all interesting in Native American culture and history – this is a must-stop for you!

7. Tuacahn Center for the Arts brings Broadway in the Desert® to southern Utah! This non-profit arts organization features Utah's finest actors, in some of Broadway's greatest musicals. The breathtaking outdoor Amphitheatre is surrounded by 1,500-foot red rock cliffs in the mouth of Padre Canyon. 8:00 PM production of The Hunchback of Norte Dame.
