Dining with Diabetes Program - In Peron
Overview
The University of Maryland Extension is offering a 4-week Dining with Diabetes class.
This class is a diabetes education program for adults with Type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and their families. Dining with Diabetes teaches healthy meal planning and other self-management skills.
Recipes and cooking videos will be included in each session.
This will be an Online Class. It will be held on the following Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. There will also be a follow-up class in February.

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN

*carbohydrate counting
*portion control
*label reading
*healthy fats
*the importance of fiber in managing diabetes
Participants will discover healthy foods and receive recipes and handouts specific to each weekly topic.
Note: Individual meal plans or guidance will not be provided. You will be asked to complete a 7-10 minute survey during the program.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The Dining with Diabetes program is available to anyone, 18 years or older who:
*Is at-risk for or currently has type 2 diabetes
*Has pre-diabetes
*Is a family member, caregiver or provides support for people with type 2 diabetes
*Wants to learn more about managing and preventing type 2 diabetes
The cost of this class is $20 and will be held from 1-3pm at the Washington County Extension Office located at 7303 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro MD 21713
The cost to attend includes food demonstrations, tastings, a program resource and recipes (including several cultural recipes). For information on how to apply for scholarships to attend the program, contact the educator teaching the program
The Dining with Diabetes program is a National Extension Program and has recently been updated to follow the 2025 American Diabetes Association Standards of Care.
This class's instructor is Lisa McCoy, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 30 years of experience in Diabetes Management education.
