Who can participate in the Tech-a-Thon?

Anyone interested in technology, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned expert, is welcome to participate. We have challenges that cater to all levels of experience.

What is the purpose of the Emergent Works Digitizing Dreamz Tech-a-Thon?

Accepted Answer

The purpose is to solve real-life technological challenges faced by system-impacted Black and Brown communities or organizations that support them by providing innovative solutions and fostering industry connections.

Question 3

Do I need to be an expert in technology to join?

Accepted Answer

No, the event is designed for individuals at all skill levels. You can join any challenge that matches your interest and expertise, from low to no code, to more advanced areas like cybersecurity.

Question 4

What types of challenges can I participate in at the Tech-a-Thon?

Accepted Answer

There are five different types of challenges: low to no code, coding, editathon style, cybersecurity, and UX/UI design. Each is designed to address specific tech-based solutions.

Question 5

If I'm not interested in participating in the challenge, how else can I get involved?

Accepted Answer

You can express interest in becoming a mentor or mentee for our 1:1 Digital Mentorship cohort, donate to support our upcoming fall cohort, or  become a sponsor for the event.

How can my organization become a sponsor?

Accepted Answer

We welcome sponsorships!  Please contact us through the event page or email us directly at hello@emergentworks.org to discuss sponsorship opportunities and benefits.

What will I gain by attending?

Accepted Answer

This is a great environment to gain hands-on experience in tackling real-world problems, networking opportunities with others in the tech industry, and the chance to contribute to meaningful community solutions.

Can I attend the event if I just want to network and not participate in the challenges?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Networking is a major component of this event!  We will also have a panel discussion about the power and importance of Fair Chance Hiring.  We encourage anyone interested in tech or community solutions to attend.

How can I contribute if I can't attend?

Accepted Answer

You can support the event by donating to our upcoming cohorts or by spreading the word about our mentorship opportunities and challenges to your network.

Question 10

Are there any prerequisites for joining a specific challenge?

Accepted Answer

No specific prerequisites are required except for a willingness to collaborate and innovate. Each challenge will have team leaders to guide participants based on their skill level and experience.
