Members will dive into the creative thinking process and develop their technical skills in one of the following areas: Photography, Videography, Graphic design, Motion graphics, or Digital Marketing. Members will complete their skills training online (using Lynda.com) and an individual project that highlights their newly developed skills. This Summer we will be working with a crew of interns and talent to create 4 episodes of "Watsonville's Most Talented" which will feature 4 Photographers and 8 Models who will compete in creative challenges and conceptual photo shoots across the Watsonville area. This summer, the PP+L program will be working with our advanced Digital Media team to film a video series and host a photography competition called “Watsonville’s Most Talented.” We will put the project management skills we gain during our training sessions to work on by coordinating events, challenges, and activities for “Watsonville’s Most Talented.”

WIT 2B: Take your Website to the Next Level (Salinas & Watsonville)
Move past creating a static website to creating a more dynamic web application your users can interact with! Learn more about the two most used languages for building the backend of websites and applications: PHP and SQL. You will connect a database to your website and learn how to work with user inputted data- Create Read Update Delete (CRUD). You will also get introduced to Rudy and Python, the two modern popular languages for building on the backend. You will also learn the basics of server architecture and how to write code for speed. WIT 2C: Unlocking the Mysteries of Linux and GitHub (Watsonville & Salinas)
Any job seeker stands out from the crowd when they have portfolios in their resumes. How does a programmer’s portfolio look like? If you haven’t gotten to the point of creating your own projects, collaborating on an existing project on GitHub is a good way to start. Employers notice your contributions on GitHub and they like that they can see your code. They may even ask you to write some code for a sample exercise and upload it to GitHub. Not only that, Github is the Google Docs for coders, so it is an essential tool to know how to use. Linux is a popular development platform that is commonly used with GitHub. Details below.

Event Details

JOIN US THIS SUMMER!   

The Digital NEST Summer Program runs for ten weeks, engaging members in fields such as Web Design, Computer Programming, Graphic Design, Video Production, Photography, Budgeting, Communications, Marketing, and much more! Members will have the opportunity to work on projects, learn how to use industry software such as Adobe products, and develop their technical and professional skills. Many of our courses are taught by staff of the Digital NEST or professionals in the industry, allowing members to gain exposure and gain some insight into careers they may be interested in pursuing.


Aside from core trainings we want to foster a community by offering Field Trips, Activities, Networking Opportunities, Film Screenings, Health & Wellness workshops, and much more! There is always something to do at the NEST. For More details on traininings and events please download the catalog below.


Program Goals: The Goal of the Digital NEST Summer Program is to advance youths career readiness by developing their creative, technical, and professional skills for the current work force.


Program Period: Monday June 19, 2017 to Friday August 11, 2017


Registration Opens: Friday April 28, 2017


Daily Schedule: Monday through Thursday 12:00pm to 7:00pm and Fridays 12:00pm to 6:00pm
