Digital Democracy from Below

Digital Democracy from Below is a public conversation hosted by UVA’s Digital Technology for Democracy Lab that examines how democracy is rebuilt from the ground up, through data practices, infrastructures, and ecological struggle. This in-person and online event will feature speakers representing different communities around the world and bring a wealth of experience at the intersection of research, community-building, policy, and practice. The conversation will ultimately result in the creation of a collection of short, public-facing essays that extend the discussion beyond the university walls.

Lunch will be served at 11:45am EST for in-person participants, and the conversation will be livestreamed at 12:00pm. Digital Democracy from Below is free and open to the public. This event builds upon the lab's October 2024 convening, “Reimagining AI for Environmental Justice and Creativity”

*A limited number of lunches will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 11:45 AM for in-person participants. Parking is not available at Bond House. If you plan to drive, there is paid parking within walking distance at the Oakhurst Inn and Central Grounds Garage. For additional handicap accessible parking spots, consult the UVA accessibility map.
