DIG DAY - Hagg Lake sponsored by Work Sharp

By Northwest Trail Alliance

Overview

NWTA, Washington County Parks, and Work Sharp are all sponsoring a work party to help re-route an area of the Hagg Lake Loop!

Planned agenda:

  • 9:00 – 9:15: meet at the Eagle Point (34) overflow parking area, check in, welcome, go over our safety talk, and work overview
  • 9:15 – 9:30: gather tools and carpool to location of work - Turtle (7) or Gandolf's (8)
  • 9:30 – 9:45: review work plans
  • 9:45 – 12:00: trail work
  • 12:00 – 12:15: break
  • 12:15-2:15: trail work
  • 2:15 – 2:30: drive back to Eagle Point
  • 2:30 – 2:45: return tools; drinks and treats will be provided; raffle thanks to Work Sharp
  • 3:00 PM: depart area

Work notes:

  • A bridge between Turtle (7) and Gandolf’s (8) was uprooted, resulting in a partial closure of the loop trail. Washington County Parks has received approval from the Bureau of Land Reclamation for a 1/2 mile – 1 mile re-route to restore access to the trail. We are re-building that section of trail. It will likely include installation of a short bridge, one culvert, probably 3+ rock sections, 3+ climbing turns, and potentially more retaining walls. For the December 20 work party, we're hoping to continue construction of the new section - and potentially one or more of the planned features.
  • Equipment we will be using will include, but not be limited to: rakes, McLeods, Pulaskis, hoes, various shovels, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, rakes, wheelbarrows, buckets, brains, arms, hands, backs, and legs! Tools will be provided; however, if you’d like to bring additional tools, you are welcome and encouraged to do so.
  • Equipment needed: helmet (cycling helmets are OK), long pants, good work gloves; we can help ensure you have a helmet, if needed. Long sleeve shirts are recommended. If conditions are wet, rain gear and sturdy boots are recommended.

Other Notes:

  • Drinks, snacks, and swag will be provided.
  • Parking passes will be provided; no parking fee is required.
  • Volunteer waivers will be available at the work site. They will need to be signed prior to beginning work. If possible, please sign the online waiver attached with this invitation prior to arrival.
  • NWTA volunteer hours will be logged for you.
  • Volunteers under age 18 will need a parent or supervising adult with them.
  • The nearest restrooms are at: Eagle Point Recreation Area (34), Elks Creek (1), Sain Creek Recreation Area (13), & C-Ramp Recreation area (14).
  • The nearest market is 7-Star Convenience Store (formerly Lake Stop Grocery) on Old 47, shortly before the park entrance.
  • If you need documents signed proving work completed, we will have staff available to sign them.
  • You’re welcome and encouraged to ride the trail after the work party; we can store bikes in a very safe area while working, if needed!
  • Special thanks to Work Sharp for their sponsorship of the event. They make great sharpening supplies for trail tools and beyond. More information about them can be found here: https://worksharptools.com/
