Around 60% of world population has internet access according to various current reports. However the % of internet users in developing countries is still below 40% with a much smaller fraction having access to broadband internet. Besides economics, the geographical constraints in laying out connectivity in many regions have been reported to be a big challenge in enhancing internet access. The present talk will highlight how differentiated Silicon technologies like partially and fully depleted Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) can enable wireless connectivity both terrestrial and via Satellites by addressing coverage, power consumption and circumventing geographic constraints and help bridge the "digital divide" among developed and rest of the nations.
