Learn how to dial in your espresso for better flavor and more consistent results. This in-person espresso class is designed for home baristas who are ready to take the next step and understand how to fine-tune their espresso machine settings and puck prep technique for a balanced, delicious shot every time.

In this intermediate-level coffee tasting and technique class, you'll learn how to adjust dose, grind size, and extraction time, along with key puck prep steps like tamping and distribution, to bring out the best in your beans. We’ll explore the differences between ristretto, normale, and lungo espresso styles, and help you understand how espresso ratios impact flavor, texture, and clarity in the cup.

If you’ve ever searched how to dial in espresso at home or why does my espresso taste sour or bitter, this workshop is for you. You'll leave with the skills to troubleshoot and perfect your espresso recipe based on taste, timing, and brew ratio so your machine works with you, not against you.

Seattle Coffee Gear is the answer to a very specific question: How can I make an excellent cup of coffee at home?

Unfortunately, we're probably all too familiar with the bitter and diluted 'coffee water' -- you know, the kind of drip coffee you'd find in a roadside diner. If that's all coffee could be, we wouldn't be here!

What makes Seattle Coffee Gear so different?

  • We're focused on you We want to make sure you buy the machine that is right for you, so we offer manufacturer-agnostic advice in a non-commissioned, low-pressure sales environment.
