About this event

This 5-webinar workshop is presented by Dr. Lori Roggman and Dr. Mark Innocenti, authors of Developmental Parenting: A Guide for Early Childhood Practitioners (Roggman, Boyce, & Innocenti, 2008) and developers of the PICCOLO and HOVRS measures. In these webinars, you will learn effective practices for both:

    • home visitors working with families AND
    • supervisors working with home visitors

You will learn, observe, and reflect on these practices, get tips to make them work in challenging situations, and develop new ideas to share with others. (You will also see a preview of the next revision of the HOVRS measure of home visit quality.)

" Loved all the great tips and ideas, the participation and collaboration, clear graphics and images, great videos, interesting readings, honoring all our questions, sharing our ideas, breakout groups by role, and learning so much about how to make home visiting really work!"

    Additional Info:

What Developmental Parenting is about: Developmental parenting refers to parent behaviors that support children’s early development and also to an approach to home visiting in which practitioners facilitate developmentally supportive parenting. Our training is based on practices described in the book, Developmental Parenting: A Guide for Early Childhood Practitioners by Lori Roggman, Lisa Boyce, and Mark Innocenti, (Brookes Publishing, 2008) and informed by recent research on home visiting effectiveness.

To effectively promote developmental parenting, practitioners need tools and strategies to promote parenting interactions that are known to support children’s early development and to encourage what parents already do in their daily lives to support their children’s development. The HOVRS and PICCOLO tools were developed for home visiting practitioners and related professionals. Each require similar skills and strategies for using the tools to increase the quality and impact of home visiting. These tools, skills, and strategies work with parents from diverse ethnicities and backgrounds and have been used in home visiting and similar parenting support settings around the world.
