Detroit Queer Sketch Series

Join us at Detroit Queer Sketch Series! Looking for a creative night out? Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned regular, DQSS is a welcoming space where queer and allied artists of all backgrounds and skill levels come together to create, connect, and celebrate community since 2022. Hosted by artists James Staycation of PARASOL and Chris Gorski of Detroit GT, DQSS offers life-drawing sessions focused on exploring the beauty and diversity of the human form. What to Expect:

On the first Monday and third Thursday of each month, we gather at the Detroit GT Studio in Ferndale. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and sketching begins promptly at 6:45 PM. Our featured model poses in intervals ranging from 3 to 30 minutes, giving you time to capture movement, shape, and presence. There are regular breaks to stretch, chat with fellow artists, and enjoy light refreshments.

A Note on Nudity:

Some of our models choose to pose nude, while others do not. Nudity is never guaranteed and always at the model’s comfort and discretion. We honor and respect the vulnerability of each model and ask all attendees to do the same. Regardless of attire, every session offers a rich opportunity to explore expression, form, and connection through art.

DQSS is a cozy, inclusive space for queers and allies to unwind, connect, and let their creative side flourish. Picture an evening with chill Lofi beats in the background, a warm and welcoming community of fellow artists, and a pressure-free environment for creativity. Whether you're hoping to meet new friends or reconnect with familiar faces, DQSS makes space for all.

No Materials? No Problem!

We’ve got you covered with art supplies for those who need them. You’re also welcome to bring your favorite tools—sketchpads, pencils, charcoals, paints, or digital tablets.

Inclusive and Accessible:

We operate on a pay-what-you-can basis with a suggested donation of $25, ensuring everyone 18 and up can participate, regardless of financial ability. While many attendees are gay men, DQSS proudly welcomes individuals of all gender identities and backgrounds.
