Coastal Continuing Education invites you to attend this interactive and educational 90-minute training with Brett Boeh Bergmann, PhD. This training is for all clinicians and treatment providers seeking to learn more about providing neuroaffirming care to clients with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Course Description:

This session will explore signs and symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders with a particular focus on ADHD and autism with the goal of increasing therapist effectiveness in identifying clients within the autistic neurotype. Supportive interventions for clients will be discussed as well as the role of formal assessment. A discussion of providing neuroaffirming care while recognizing when to refer out for psychological assessment in the pursuit of a formal diagnosis will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help you:

1. Develop supportive interventions for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders.

2. Evaluate when a client would benefit from testing for diagnostic clarification for neurodevelopmental disorders.

About the Speaker:

Brett Boeh Bergmann, PhD

Brett Boeh (Bay) Bergmann (she/her) is a licensed clinical-community psychologist who owns a private practice and works as the geropsychologist for the Senior Behavioral Unit at Sharp Mesa Vista. She earned her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign and completed her doctoral internship at Sharp Mesa Vista. She then went on to complete her postdoctoral fellowship at the Sharp McDonald Center serving adults with substance use disorders.

In her private practice, Brett specializes in psychological assessment using gold-standard tools and a strengths-based approach to help clients navigate diagnoses and gain access to community resources. Her mission is to increase access within San Diego County to high-quality testing services and to advocate alongside clients to access helpful resources. She has clinical expertise in psychological testing, Autism assessment, ADHD assessment, geropsychology, end-of-life, and substance use.

In her work at Sharp Mesa Vista, she provides supports to older adults on the inpatient older adult unit and serves as faculty for the training program where she teaches future psychologists, and provides supervision for assessment across the hospital. Her work at Sharp Mesa Vista is a testament to her deep commitment to serving her community and increasing access for individuals who experience marginalization.

She is a native to San Diego, proud graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, mother of three, and a caregiver to an adult with disabilities which fuels her passion for being an advocate and neurodiversity affirming service provider within the mental health community.
