Designing for Dignity: UX Design for Patient Journeys

This lecture series explores the critical role of User Experience (UX) design in shaping the patient journey within healthcare. We'll move beyond traditional healthcare models to examine how a patient-centered approach, enhanced by thoughtful UX design, can transform healthcare experiences and improve outcomes.

Key areas covered

Understanding the Patient Journey: We'll define the patient journey, map its key stages and touchpoints (from initial awareness of symptoms to post-treatment care), and identify common pain points and areas for improvement.

The Importance of Empathy in Healthcare UX: This section emphasizes designing with compassion, considering the emotional, psychological, and physical challenges patients face.

Core Principles of Effective Healthcare UX

Accessibility: Designing for all patients, including those with disabilities.

Clarity and Simplicity: Communicating complex medical information in an easy-to-understand manner.

Trust and Transparency: Building confidence through clear communication and reliable systems.

Efficiency and Usability: Streamlining processes to reduce patient burden and improve staff workflows.

Practical Applications of UX in Healthcare: We'll explore real-world examples and case studies showcasing how UX design can enhance:

  • Telehealth platforms
  • Patient portals
  • Mobile health applications
  • Wearable health devices

The Role of Technology: Examining how digital tools and technologies can be leveraged to create seamless, personalized, and supportive patient experiences.

Measuring and Evaluating UX Success: Discussing key metrics and methods for assessing the effectiveness of UX design interventions in healthcare settings.

The Future of Patient Experience: We will look at emerging trends and innovations that are shaping the future of healthcare UX.
