Event description

Description

Are you a Architect, Planner, or Landscape Architect? Register here to participate in AIA Santa Barbara's Design Charrette meant to generate ideas on how to revitalize the Lower State Street Corridor and connect these brainstorms to local planning officials! Please note that while the event is open to observation by the public, the Charrette portion will be invitation only to design professionals in Santa Barbara. If you are a member of the public you do not need to sign up but are welcome to come and observe.

Let’s Charrette! Making State Street Work!

Next month on Saturday, October 21, from 9 AM until 6 PM, at the Louise Lowry Davis Center at 1232 De La Vina, AIA Santa Barbara will conduct a Design Charrette called Making State Street Work.

A pre Charrette meeting for the Team Participants will be held after work hours on Wednesday October 18th to announce the teams and to review the organization and goals for the Charrette.

More info will follow, and Learning Units can be earned by AIA participants; 8 HSW LU’s for the Saturday Charrette and 1 LU for the Wednesday Pre Meeting.

The Making State Street Work Charrette will brainstorm fundamental changes to State Street to adjust to global shifts in retail and our vacant storefronts. The City recognizes that there may be benefits to allowing residential development on our main street and the creation of some smaller retail space options. The City has reached out to urge AIASB to help our community envision possibilities for dynamic working solutions for the State Street El Pueblo Viejo corridor from Gutierrez to Sola.

The Making State Street Work Charrette is about thinking different, big and bold - to get lots of ideas in true Charrette fashion. Teams will be created and given an area on Lower State Street to study and redesign for a more vibrant, economically vital, and sustainable future for our downtown. Ideas generated will ultimately be presented to City Council for consideration and planning for positive change.

AIASB invites Santa Barbara’s architects, associate architects, landscape architects, and planners to participate as part of a team for this one day event. The Charrette will be open to other professionals (civil engineers, contractors, developers, real estate agents, property owners, etc.) and to the public to observe the process.

We urge your participation and sign up as soon as possible, and no later than October 4th, so that the organizing committee can plan ahead
