DePauw University Band & Orchestra Strings
Craig Paré, director of bands
Orcenith Smith, orchestra director
Sunday, Oct. 26 • 3 p.m.
Green Center, Kresge Auditorium
This shared program of wind music, led by Director of Bands Craig Paré, and string repertoire, under the baton of DePauw University Orchestra director Orcenith Smith, offers appealing variety. DePauw University Band selections include October by Eric Whitacre, Lauds (Praise High Day) by Ron Nelson, and The American Dream by music professor emeritus James Beckel. In addition, the program features two current music faculty members as guest soloists in Joseph Turrin's Fandango: William Rabun, trumpet, and Adam Bell, trombone. Strings will contribute the Moderato from Antonin Dvorak's elegant Serenade for Strings, along with the Allegro from Italian baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso in D Minor, and American George Gershwin's Lullaby for Strings—adding a tip of the hat to Halloween with "The Witches' Dance" from English composer Henry Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas.
The audience is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the concert, 100% of which will be donated to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.
