Demystifying Transportation Models Lunch & Learn

  • Have you ever wondered… what really is the difference between a macroscopic model and a microscopic model?
  • Have you ever asked a question and gotten the response: “Well, that’s what the model said…” but wondered what exactly the model was saying?
  • Have you ever been generally curious about how these models are built and used?

Join us for a lunch and learn with Kristy Tu, who will aim to illuminate the world of transportation modeling for those who are curious (or who could use a bit of a refresher!). We will discuss some of the fundamental concepts behind models, discuss some of the differences between types of models, and how they are built. We will also discuss how models are used in the “real world”, touch on how they can differ across modes (e.g., pedestrian, traffic, rail and transit) and discuss good questions to ask your model(ers).

About the speaker:

Kristy Tu is a senior transportation planner/engineer with Arup’s New York office. She has specialized in various different types of transportation analysis and modeling over the last 10 years to help answer questions about our built environment.

Kristy is a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and Road Safety Professional, and is a licensed PE in both the US and Canada. She is also a former Chair of YPT-NYC!
