DEMO: Solar Powered Rain Barrel Irrigation System at the GRC

By Grow Pittsburgh

Overview

"Join us at the GRC where we will talk about our new Solar Powered Pump & Rain Barrel Irrigation System.

Join us at the GRC where we will talk about our new Solar Powered Pump & Rain Barrel Irrigation System. In addition to tool rental and compost, the GRC has a few gardens. However, we do not have a city water hook up. To solve this problem, we installed rain barrels to harvest water from a roof. Next we added an electric pump to pressurize the water so it could flow into a drip irrigation system. It was not practical to run electricity to this spot, so we installed a small solar panel and battery to power the pump.

At this event we will talk about how we built this system, how to use it, Grid power vs Solar, limitations and considerations if you are interested in a similar system.
