Defensive Tactics Instructor Course

MARCH 2-5, MARCH 9-12, MARCH 16-19, 2026 8:00am-4:00pm
The Defensive Tactics Instructor Course will prepare instructor candidates to teach the Defensive and Arrest Tactics (DAAT) basic course in the law enforcement academy and the Principles of Subject Control (POSC) basic course in the jail and secure juvenile detention (SJD) academies. The 96-hour course is split into three consecutive (4-day) weeks, with weekends off. It will be taught by Master Instructor Trainers from the Madison Police Department. Candidates must bring their duty belt with a training gun, mouthguard and appropriate attire for physical skills practice. Candidates MUST be adequately physically fit with no medical limitations to participate in this course; however there will be NO exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray required as part of this class.
Prerequisites:
Candidates must have completed the 32-hour CJ-IDC course before attending OR already be a currently certified LESB instructor. Candidates must pass any skills evaluation conducted at the beginning of the course and complete a pre-course study guide prior to attending.
