This advanced-level workshop is designed for play therapists who want to strengthen their confidence and deepen their skills in working with children impacted by trauma. Together, we will explore how adverse childhood experiences shape neurobiology, behavior, and play, and how clinicians can respond with trauma-informed interventions that promote safety, resilience, and healing.

Through interactive learning, case reflection, and hands-on practice, participants will connect polyvagal theory with play therapy applications and leave with practical tools they can use immediately in their sessions. Whether you are looking to expand your advanced practice or refresh your approach with new insights, this training will challenge and support you in taking your trauma-informed play therapy skills to the next level.

Workshop Objectives:

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

Friday March 27, 2026:

  1. Explain how trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) impact children’s regulation, behavior, and play.
  2. Compare play therapy theories and identify how they inform approaches to trauma processing.
  3. Recognize and assess resilience and adversity indicators in children engaged in play therapy.
  4. Practice trauma-informed play therapy techniques designed to support safety, hope, and well-being.
  5. Apply play therapy interventions that facilitate trauma processing in directive and non-directive sessions.
  6. Reflect on and expand their personal theoretical framework for integrating trauma-informed principles into play therapy practice.
