Deep Dive Series: Art of Hot Sake

By D.C. Sake cō

Overview

Redefine hot sake at DC Sake cō’s Deep Dive—guided tasting with Origami’s Toji, Sake District, and Sushi Taro bites.

Join us for DC Sake cō's next Deep Dive Series — this time, we’re diving into the world of Hot Sake!

You’ve probably heard the myth: “hot sake is bad sake.” Well… get ready to toss that out. This event will show you just how delicious warm sake can be — and how much true craft, technique, and tradition can go into it! We’re thrilled to welcome two passionate hot-sake geeks (in the best way!): Justin Potts, Toji Master of Origami Sake in Arkansas, and our DC sake friend, Scott Movens of Sake District. If these two fell this deep into the hot-sake rabbit hole, there’s definitely something special there — and we’re all going to discover it together! Whether you're a longtime sake lover or brand-new to kanzake, we hope this session sparks your curiosity and opens up a whole new side of the sake world. We are also deeply grateful to Chef Nobu Yamazaki of Sushi Taro, who never fails to create a truly theme-inspired culinary experience. This time as well, he will translate the idea of hot sake into dishes shaped by his creativity added with full of playfulness and imagination! It’s truly special, and if you haven’t experienced one of these menus yet, you’re definitely missing out!

Hot Sake Presenters
Justin Potts — Guest Toji / Hot Sake Geek-in-Residence is the brewmaster at Origami Sake in Arkansas and a certified “Master of Sake” who spent nearly two decades working with breweries across Japan. He blends deep tradition with creative curiosity — and his another true obsession is hot sake. Justin has been exploring its depth and beauty for years, and he’s coming to DC to share exactly what makes warm sake so magical.
Scott Movens — DC’s Emerging Hot Sake Maestro Scott is the founder of Sake District and one of DC’s most active sake educators. With advanced certifications and a hands-on approach (yes, he even grows his own koji!), he’s becoming a local champion for warm sake, and we love it! Scott has been exploring Kansake techniques seriously, ready to inspire us in discovering hot sake as something elegant, flavorful, and … fascinating.
