If You’ve Ever Wondered If Your Mornings Are Missing Something...
They probably are. And odds are, that something is a dance party.
Winter mornings can feel a little dark and chilly… but dancing? Dancing warms you up in ways coffee can only dream about. What if the thing that makes you feel more awake, more connected, and less “why is it so early” is dancing with a delightful bunch of humans on Zoom?
What Is the Dance Experiment?
Picture a morning rave crossed with a meditation retreat — that happens every single day.
Throw in themed playlists, weather reports from wherever our dancers happen to be, and friendly chatter from folks around the world… That's it!
Here’s what a typical morning looks like:
- A short five minute good morning from friends around the world
- A brief 5–10 minute meditation to get you out of your head
- 25 minutes of music + dancing
- A whole lot of fun
You don’t need rhythm. You don’t need skill. You don’t even need your camera on.
You just need a body (any model or mileage) and a willingness to show up... Zero judgment!
Why Do We Do This?
Because science says it’s good for us:
- Dancing = better brain health
- Meditation is good for the soul
- Doing both = a shockingly wonderful way to start the day
We’ve been doing this for almost four years, and it never stops being fun.
Are There Surprises?
Absolutely. Always. Like Every Single Month. But you have to join us to find out.
Who’s Behind All This Morning Magic?
You Can Thank Anastasia Allison — she started the Dance Experiment and also founded a company called Kula Cloth (which, admittedly, doesn’t sound like it should lead to morning dance parties… and yet here we are).
Thank Allison Tapert — she adds this event to the Kula Calendar every single month.
Thank our Joy Facilitators — Amanda, Beth, Bonnie, Chizuko, Courtney, and Molly — for proving over and over that winter mornings are better when you dance your way into them.
Meet Our Joy Facilitators!
Our Joy Facilitators collectively have very little dance experience! However, they have a passion for spreading good cheer, laughter and smiles wherever they go. They are ready to show you what it takes to get out of your head, over yourself and into a high vibrational state of pure dancing joy. Come dance with us!
Anastasia Allison: Our founder and dance enthusiast. Her journey from “random spastic” movements to “interpretive alpine shuffling” will inspire you.
Bonnie Ackerman: A certified Kula Dance groupie with a passion for making people smile.
Amanda Lemay: Amanda joins us all the way from The Canadian Gulf Islands and knows the importance of moving our bodies to release emotions.
Molly Moore: Dancing from Pittsburgh and experiencing the joy of dancing freely.
Marie DeJournette: Once a Joy Facilitator always a Joy Facilitator. Marie has retired from the Dance - but can still be found spreading joy far and wide.
Courtney Lake: Hand-picked to continue the Dance Experiment all the way from Toronto, Canada.
Chizuko Heyer: Her most dance-relevant experience includes being a dance/ballet mom for 14 years (& counting). Excited to be joining this non-choreographed form of gathering as a facilitator!
Allison Tapert: Former dance hater who once said you couldn’t pay her to dance - can now be seen dancing in the grocery store.
Beth Swanson: Special Guest appeances -- coming to you all the way from Arkansas!
THE FINE PRINT BUT DEFINITELY NOT A DISCLAIMER: Dancing can be addictive. Please consult your primary care physician before starting this or any other dance regimen. Side affects may include: laughter, excessive smiling, sweating, joy and occasional muscle cramps. Individual results may vary.
A SPECIAL NOTE: If you do suffer any of the above side effects, meditation may help.
